Lawmakers are halfway through the legislative session, debating policies that could help or harm your business and Minnesota’s economy. Join us for Chamber Day at the Capitol and hear about proposals on taxes, health care, workplace rules, the potential legalization of recreational marijuana, and the proposed paid family and medical leave mandate.
Hear from key legislators working on these issues and how they will impact Minnesota’s economy. Employers voices are needed at the Capitol now more than ever!
10:00 a.m. Chamber Day at the Capitol – Welcome
Doug Loon, President and CEO, Minnesota Chamber of Commerce
The legislature is speeding through an agenda that includes tax and cost increases with the biggest budget surplus in state history. Many employer mandates and a variety of new regulations are being debated. There is a lot on the docket at the capitol - find out the likelihood of passage for these proposals this year and how it helps elected officials to hear from real business voices throughout the state.
10:10 a.m. Conversation with Commerce Committee Chairs

Committee Chairs oversee various issues impacting business in the state. The House and Senate Commerce committees are considering some of the most important bills affecting our state, such as legalizing recreational marijuana, workplace mandates, health insurance, environmental regulation, even sports betting. How do they approach discussion of these complicated bills? How do they find compromise? How do they factor in input from the business community?
10:55 a.m. Conversation with Minority Leader Lisa Demuth
Republican leadership is facing single-party control in Minnesota for the first time in a decade. How are they working with their constituents and the majority to get things done? With a budget surplus of nearly $18 billion, how are they taking steps to advance tax relief and check spending? Hear from leadership how they plan to keep the economy in mind and impact big issues this session.
11:15 a.m. Conversation with Senator Eric Pratt
Democrats have a one-vote majority in the Senate. Hear about the big policies that the Senate is discussing and how much can the parties work together to pass policies that help Minnesota’s economy.
11:35 a.m. FAQ with the Chamber’s policy team
The Minnesota Chamber’s lobbyists are your full time government relations team. They spend their time at the Capitol fiercely defending the needs of businesses and the economy. This session is your chance to do some rapid fire Q&A on what is likely to pass this session and what it means for you.

After the program adjourns, we encourage attendees to meet with their legislators.
