The Steele County Historical Society (SCHS) will be touring the newly renovated State Capitol and the Como Conservatory on Tuesday, November 7. The bus will depart from Steel e County History Center at 8:30 AM and returning at approximately 4:30 PM. The day will begin at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, formerly Como Park Conservatory, opened in November 1915 fulfilling Mr. Nussbaumer’s dream of someday adding a glass conservatory to Como Park. The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory occupies one full acre under glass, managing six indoor gardens and three outdoor gardens and annually manages 50,000 plants from 1,684 separate species. The group will enjoy lunch at M ST. Café, the latest in the lineage of extraordinary dining options at The Saint Paul Hotel. The M ST. Cafe is the perfect sophisticated-yet-casual destination. Lunch is included in the ticket price. The afternoon will be spent with a guided tour through the newly renovated State Capitol. This 1905 masterpiece has been returned to its original grandeur. The Capitol features the second-largest self-supported marble dome in the world as well as a wide range of decorative art, murals and paintings restored to original 1905 patterns and colors. The tour guide will share stories about the Capitol's history, art and architecture. Weather permitting, walk to the Quadriga (golden horses) on the roof.
